The Faculty of Education and Social Work (EDSW) is a community of diverse faculty, staff and students committed to a shared mission of ‘realizing potential’. Its focus is on truly unexpected levels of student success and meaningful research that is a form of service to others. With approximately 110 faculty members and over 7,900 enrolments in 17 programs across two schools and two departments, EDSW offers a unique range of programs from Adult Special Education (ASE) and academic access to professional programs and graduate studies. As EDSW’s chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean is responsible to the Provost and Vice-President Academic and Research for providing strong leadership and vision in the articulation and implementation of EDSW’s evolving strategic plan for professional and career development, education, research and outreach in alignment with TRU’s mission, vision and strategic priorities. As an accomplished teacher, researcher and/or practitioner, the Dean will possess an authentic, open, transparent and collegial style of leadership with the ability to collaborate with colleagues to plan EDSW’s future.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to demonstrate knowledge of trends and current issues in education and social work across diverse settings (urban, rural and remote) and have a record of advocacy, service, innovation, scholarly engagement and service to the profession. They will have an outstanding academic record, a strong and deep appreciation for research, teaching and service and demonstrated experience as an inspirational leader and mentor. An earned doctorate is required, and a strong understanding of the intellectual and operational diversity across the spectrum of disciplines within EDSW is essential.
