Education Deans commit to the Scarborough Charter

August 30, 2023 | The Association of Canadian Deans of Education (ACDE) joins more than 50 universities and colleges, and numerous partner organizations, in endorsing the Scarborough Charter.

ACDE unites deans, directors, and chairs of Canadian faculties, schools, colleges, and departments of education. ACDE members are committed to pan-Canadian leadership in professional and teacher education, educational research, and policy in universities.

As those responsible for the preparation of teachers and related professionals, including administrators, school counsellors, school psychologists and more, ACDE members are uniquely positioned to ensure that educators are ready to understand, account for, and address anti-Black racism in the professional settings in which they operate.

The charter is built upon four core principles: Black flourishing, inclusive excellence, mutuality, and accountability. Through ACDE’s endorsement, ACDE members publicly commit to enacting the Charter’s principles, actions, and accountabilities.
