18 Nov Education Canada: Renewing the Accord on Indigenous Education
October 15, 2023 | ACDE’s Accord on Indigenous Education, published in 2010, aimed to inform and transform both teacher education and K–12 classrooms by increasing knowledge and awareness of the realities of settler-colonial approaches to education. Since the Accord’s publication, it has served as a foundational document in programmatic review, with a marked influence on teacher education and other programs, education policy, hiring practices, and a range of other impacts. While many aspects of the original Accord still resonate, evolving policy directives and emerging sociopolitical movements point toward the need for a revised Accord that better responds to today’s contexts. ACDE is honoured to continue the work of the Accord by embarking on a revision of the 2010 document.
