Are our schools flourishing?

October 30, 2023 | In 2020, at the height of the COVID pandemic, ACDE released a statement calling on governments to invest in teachers, teacher education, and research as part of Canada’s pandemic recovery strategy. In her recent article for Education Canada, Dr. Kathryn Hibbert asks what progress has been made toward this goal, citing the ongoing crisis in school culture and climate. How can we, as a society, prioritize changes to the physical spaces, culture and climate of Canadian schools that will ensure that students, staff and administrators flourish? Dr. Kathryn Hibbert proposes a “climate recovery strategy” for education ecosystems, asking us to prioritize “a healthier, sustainable and long-term vision and investment in our Canadian educational future – and the futures of all children who participate in these systems.”
